Agile training

Learn how to do agile right.

On a complicated problem you can work out the method and hand it over. On a complex one you can’t, because the method only shows up as you go, and that changes what the person leading it has to do. Four courses, one instructor, built around that difference.

Agile methods are, at heart, ways of deciding: who decides, how soon, and how quickly the team learns whether it was right. These courses teach leaders and delivery teams to run them well. When the questions reach beyond the team, into how the whole organization decides around it, that is the work of our organizational decision systems practice.

Taught by Lukas Klose, Certified Enterprise Coach (Scrum Alliance) and instructor on the Agile Leadership Certificate at the UBC Sauder School of Business, where he teaches two of its five courses. Twenty-seven years in engineering, large-scale delivery and organizational change.

Courses

Agile Foundations

21 hours · $1,795 per participant

A leader does not need to run a delivery system, but does need to understand the one their teams run on — well enough to set expectations, read what the team reports, and know which requests are reasonable. This course traces how work management arrived where it is, gives participants a way to tell which problems will yield to planning and which only reveal themselves once you step into them, and covers the three operating models that matter: Lean, Kanban and Scrum..

Leading in Agile Organizations

16 hours · $1,395 per participant

Leading people who are solving complex problems means giving up the thing that made you effective on complicated ones. The method can no longer be specified, because it has to emerge; what a leader can do is shape the conditions it emerges in.

Product Owner Foundations

14 hours · $1,095 per participant

This course provides the foundational skills to step into the role that connects the business and the delivery team — the role that sets a team up for success and decides how early value arrives. It takes a leader from a stated ambition to a defensible direction, a pragmatic case for investment, and a prioritized sequence of work, then to the transparency instruments that let them govern against outcomes rather than activity reports.

Managing Agile Delivery

14 hours · $1,295 per participant

The hardest question a delivery team gets asked is when it will be finished, and “done when we’re done” is not an answer a steering committee will accept twice. This course gives a defensible way to forecast from actual data, present a range rather than a date, and adjust it in public as the evidence changes.

What participants say

As a startup dealing with a lot of “unknown unknowns,” we are always looking to improve our knowledge and execution of agile principles. We sought out a coach who could help the broader company further develop their expertise and apply it in their daily work. Lukas more than delivered and walked us through engaging exercises. Overall the session was a fantastic experience which we frequently reference during our sprint meetings. Would highly recommend.

Matt Newport CTO and co-founder, OssoVR

Lukas is a genuine Agile expert. Everything I learned can be directly applied to my current work in I.T. and software development which made this class tremendously valuable to me. Lukas had the entire class fully engaged, participating, and really understanding all the subject matter -- even when topics were a bit complex. I now have a toolbox of techniques that are not only practical but game changing in regards to my product owner career. Lukas clearly has a lot of experience coaching companies and individuals in Agile and believe me it shows! Lukas is inspirational, personable, understanding and a wealth of knowledge. I definitely recommend Lukas as an instructor or agile coach !

Tazmin Leipsig Manager, Product and Solutions, Dapasoft

It really changed the way some of our staff are engaged and acting. I will say that in the last couple of weeks as we work more collaboratively staff seem visibly happier and more engaged to me this is the biggest win of all since morale in these times is something we need to be aware of

How the courses run

Every course is delivered live by the instructor — virtually over MS Teams or Zoom, in a classroom at your location, or as a private class for a single cohort. Teaching is from hand-drawn charts rather than slide decks, in the room and on a shared whiteboard online. Every participant receives a workbook covering the full course content.

Courses are taught in English. Nothing in the catalogue carries a psychometric or personality assessment.
